Rachel R. Savarino Library at Trocaire College

Library Mission Statement

The mission of the library is to ensure that students, faculty and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished

  • by providing intellectual and physical access to information in all formats;
  • by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas;
  • by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of students;
  • by providing access to materials necessary and useful for the curricula of the College.

The Rachel R. Savarino Library reaffirms and acts on the principles adopted by the American Library Association and stated in the Library Bill of Rights. These principles assert that the responsibility of the librarian is to select the books and materials, which will expand a balanced and comprehensive collection. It is also expected that librarians will accept gifts to the library with discretion, based on these same principles.
